POSITION TITLE: Substitute Nurse
FLSA: Exempt Professional
QUALIFICATIONS: Current NYS Professional License (LPN or RN) and Current First Aid/CPR
REPORTS TO: Building Level Administration
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Daily contracted services for the current school year.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assumes the role of the full-time nurse but on a temporary basis.

Administer medications and treatments as ordered.

Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents.

Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.

Administer care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.

Serve as a liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.

Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, and all safety procedures.

Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.

Report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment.
- Maintains documentation of all nursing activity throughout the day.
- Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Leave detailed notes for nurse and/or administrator on any issues experienced during the day.

Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or school district administration.
